Who Is Moses?
In Abrahamic religions, Moses was the Hebrew prophet who led the Israelites out of slavery in the hands of the Egyptians. He is considered the most important prophet in Judaism and Samaritanism, and one of the most important prophets in Christianity, Islam, the Baháʼí Faith, and other Abrahamic religions.
According to both the Bible and the Quran, God dictated the Mosaic Law to Moses, which he wrote down in the five books of the Torah. He was God’s servant but.
Why Did God Give Moses Three Specific Signs as Proof of His Salvation Plan?1
The Lord asked him, “What is that in your hand?”
“A staff,” he replied. “Throw it on the ground,” He said.
So Moses threw it on the ground; it became a snake, and he ran from it. The Lord told Moses, “Stretch out your hand and grab it by the tail.” So he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand (Exodus 4:2–4 CSB)
In addition the Lord said to him, “Put your hand inside your cloak. ”So he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, his hand was diseased, resembling snow. “Put your hand back inside your cloak,” He said. So he put his hand back inside, and when he took it out, it had again become like the rest of his skin( Exodus 4:6–7 CSB)
“And if they don’t believe even these two signs or listen to what you say, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the Nile will become blood on the ground.”(Exodus 4:9 CSB)
At first glance, these signs may seem random. However, they prophetically point to God’s mysterious plan of salvation for humanity through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 10:7 (CSB) — Then I said, “See — it is written about me in the scroll — I have come to do your will, God.” (This quote comes from Psalm 40:7)
Here is the prophetic pattern revealed through these three signs, as commanded by God to prove His salvation from slavery — both physical and spiritual:
The Staff Becoming a Snake
This sign points back to the beginning — when the serpent introduced sin into the world by tempting Adam and Eve with the knowledge of good and evil. The staff transforming into a snake represents the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, with the serpent as the deceiver. It was at this moment that evil, like poison, injected the world.
The Diseased Hand
After sin entered the world, it brought with it sickness and death. Moses’ hand becoming diseased and then healed symbolizes humanity’s condition after the fall — corrupted by evil, yet with hope for restoration through God’s intervention. By the death and resurrection of Jesus we’re healed.
The Water Turning to Blood
Finally, it is only through the shedding of blood that salvation is possible. The drawn water from the Nile turning into blood on the ground foreshadows the ultimate atonement through the blood of Jesus Christ, poured out for our Salvation from the slavery of sin and it’s consequences.
Leviticus 17:11 (CSB) — “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have appointed it to you to make atonement on the altar for your lives, since it is the lifeblood that makes atonement.”
These signs were not just wonders — they were prophetic messages, hidden in plain sight, revealing the coming of Christ.
Apparently, It’s no coincidence that the ten plagues began with the serpent, followed by plagues and death, and ended with the blood of the lamb that brought deliverance.
God’s plan has always been consistent — from the days of Moses to the cross of Christ.
