And, for the first time since the war ended in the history of this country, a president in the person of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has set up the Southeast Development Commission along with its subsidiary, the Southeast Investment Company.
With a takeoff capital of 150 billion naira, today, the south east has a Minister of Works for the first time in the person of His Excellency, Engineer David Umahi, former Governor of Ebony State.
Apparently, The Southeast Development Commission (SEDC) was established through a bill passed by the Nigerian Senate and signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Specifically, the Senate passed the bill seeking the commission’s establishment, and the House of Representatives had previously passed it, with both houses concurring on the final bill. President Tinubu then signed the bill into law, formally establishing the commission.
Additionally, President Tinubu has also approved the allocation of $3 billion for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the long abandoned eastern rail line corridor to boost transport and economic activity.
In the words of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the era of infrastructure marginalization, isolation and neglect is over, marking the beginning of a new chapter of transformation, inclusion and nationwide connectivity.
The Southeast today is witnessing a new wave of federal attention and infrastructure development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The main objectives of the South East Development Commission are to drive sustainable development, to promote investment, to support infrastructure development, and to improve the standard of living in the Southeast region of Nigeria, which includes Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo State.
And the overall vision is to position the Southeast as the preferred investment destination in Africa by 2035.
The president’s southeast Superhighway project is another landmark legacy project that will end infrastructure marginalization in the Southeast.
These landmark legacy projects in the Southeast truly encapsulate the 3R concept which was voiced soon after the Nigerian Civil war, that is reconstruction, rehabilitation and reconciliation.
In addition to the Southeast region, there are other landmark legacy projects that’s going on in other geopolitical regions of this country.
