Apparently, The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its efforts on drug trafficking and just recently arrested a former international football player.
However, The Europe-based smugglers, and a 72-year-old grandmother involved in a operations that led to the discovery of over 22.6kg of cocaine and ice methamphetamine at major Nigerian entry points.
The high-profile anti-drug operation, which unfolded between June 24 and 27, spanned across the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) in Enugu, Seme border in Lagos, and locations in Kwara and Delta States.
Meanwhile, the Footballer Turned Trafficker apprehended at MMIA
A former professional footballer, Segun George Hunkarin, was arrested alongside his associate, Ntoruka Emmanuel Chinedu, over an attempt to smuggle cocaine into Nigeria. Chinedu, a frequent international traveller known for shuttling clothes and food items between Turkey and Nigeria, was arrested upon arrival at MMIA on Tuesday, June 24.
Elsewhere in Delta State, a 72-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Christy Ejaro, was apprehended at Niger CAT area of Warri with sachets of skunk prepared for retail distribution.
Moreover, Amid these intense enforcement actions, the NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign remained active across several states, reaching thousands of students.

NDLEA Chairman Commends Operatives
Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers involved in the operations.
“I commend the officers and men of MMIA, AIIA, Delta, Kwara, and Seme Commands for their successful arrests and seizures this past week. I also applaud our personnel across the country for their consistent efforts to balance drug supply reduction with demand reduction,” Marwa said.
These recent arrests underscore NDLEA’s unwavering resolve to dismantle both local and international drug trafficking networks exploiting Nigeria’s porous entry points.
