The Federal Government has formally approved 16 years as the minimum age requirement for admission into all tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
This announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the official opening of the 2025 Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that the 16 year age threshold is final and non-negotiable, warning all institutions to comply strictly with this directive.
He added that any admission granted outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) would be considered illegal, and those responsible would face legal penalties.
Furthermore, the minister stressed that heads of institutions found engaging in any form of admission malpractice or violating the CAPS framework would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Apparently, This move is part of the federal government’s effort to enforce standardized entry procedures and transparency in the nation’s higher education system.
