We Are Currently Going Through A Constitutional Reform – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

In a Democracy Day note delivered by his Excellency Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State. He stated thus “Today is the day that we remember what the late MKO Abiola stood and fought for.”

The Governor later proceeded by making Nigerians and most expecially Lagosians to understand that June 12 is a day to remember when Nigeria democracy and the freedom to choose a leader was challenged. He said through it all Nigerians have come to realize that there is no alternative to democracy, which guarantees the freedom of expression, freedom of choice, freedom of movement, and freedom of people to determine who their true leaders should be at every point in time.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated that June 12 is a day which has come to stay in Nigeria, and Nigerians will continue to remember and celebrate as the country’s Democracy Day.

How well have we run our Democracy the Governor asked. How well have we kept to the tenets of real and true democracy? What are the challenges that are still facing us as people? Are we truly running a free and true democracy? He said the answers are left in each and everyone of us.

The Governor later made everyone to understand that Nigeria is currently going through a constitutional reform. He futher implore all leaders to please let the reforms, the changes and amendment that would be coming out of this reform be true representations and reflections of what an ordinary citizen wants and needs.

He further said “Let it be a solution to what the real Nigerians on the streets are agitating for daily, which is well within their rights as citizens of this great country.”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu end the Democracy Day note by emphasizing that the price the heroes of June 12 paid to get us here have not been in vain.

He finally wish Lagos Happy Democracy Day.
